How I Found My Way to Massage

For nearly 30 years, I worked in the printing and graphic production industry. It was a career built around detail, problem-solving and understanding how all the pieces fit together.

But massage had always been somewhere in the background of my life. Even when I was young, I found myself rubbing my mom's head and neck when she had headaches. Years later, after an unexpected career change, I finally had the opportunity to explore something I had thought about for a very long time.

I went back to school to study massage therapy, and what began as a completely new direction became the work I was meant to grow into.

From New York to Tennessee

After completing massage school and becoming licensed in New York, I began building my practice and eventually created Caz Massage in Cazenovia, New York. Those years gave me the opportunity to work with many different people, bodies and reasons for seeking massage.

When life brought me to Tennessee to be closer to my family, I continued my education, completed the requirements for Tennessee licensure, and began working as a massage therapist in Nashville.

After two years at Basic Kneads Advanced Massage Therapy, I was ready to create a practice of my own again. Paula's Massage Magic became my opportunity to bring together everything I've learned while creating the kind of massage experience I believe in: personal, thoughtful and centered around the individual on my table.

After two years at Basic Kneads Advanced Massage Therapy, I was ready to create a practice of my own again. Paula’s Massage Magic became a place to bring together everything I’d learned and create the kind of massage experience I believe in: personal, thoughtful, and centered around the individual on my table.

Why “Paula’s Massage Magic”?

The name actually started with my sisters.

After I became a massage therapist and started my first business, two of my older sisters came to visit and decided to try a massage with me. Both had been seeing their own massage therapists for years, knew exactly what they liked, and weren’t shy about saying so. In a family of nine children, compliments from my siblings didn’t always come easily.

After her massage, my sister Kathy started telling Marti that I had “magic hands.” Coming from my sisters, that meant a lot.

I joked that maybe the magic came from loving what I was doing and caring about the person on my table. When you genuinely want someone to feel better, there’s a different kind of attention that goes into the work.

That kind of care had always come naturally to me. My sisters had seen it in little things, too, like soaking my mom’s feet, caring for her toenails, massaging lotion into her feet, and taking the time to make her comfortable.

That’s what “Massage Magic” means to me: skilled hands, genuine care, and helping someone leave the table feeling better than when they arrived.

That kind of care has always come naturally to me, whether I was caring for my mom or working with someone on my table.

That’s what “Massage Magic” means to me. It isn’t anything mystical. It’s skilled hands, genuine care, and helping someone leave the table feeling better than when they arrived.

I listen to what you tell me, pay attention to how your body responds, and look at the bigger picture. Work, workouts, posture, repetitive movements, stress and everyday habits can all influence what I find on the table.

I also don’t believe massage has to hurt to be effective. Pressure and techniques are adjusted throughout your session based on what your body needs and how it responds.

With years of experience and a variety of approaches to draw from, your session may include deep tissue techniques, myofascial work, Trigger Point Therapy, Swedish massage, MediCupping, Gua Sha, assisted stretching, heat or other techniques.

The goal isn’t to perform the same massage on every person. It’s to help you feel better in your body.

I don’t just find the tight spot.

I want to understand why it’s tight.

Over the years, I’ve continued to study different approaches to bodywork, giving me a larger toolbox to draw from. Depending on your needs, your session may include deep tissue techniques, myofascial work, Swedish massage, Medi Cupping, Gua Sha, assisted stretching, heat or other techniques.

Experience That Evolves

Years of hands-on work have taught me that no single technique is right for every body. I continue expanding my education and adapting what I learn to the people I work with.

A Peaceful Place to Pause

My goal is to create a place where you can step away from everything pulling at your attention and simply be present in your body for a while.

Helping people feel better makes me feel better, too.
